John D. Crooks is a writer of children’s fiction who seeks to bring empowering stories for children at large featuring African American characters and others through a collection of books distributed by Bebe Noir Publishing. He has gleaned a special insight about the life of children through the dynamic relationship that he has developed with children in mentoring and volunteering through his silly sense of humor and endless sense of wonder along with the relationship with his own children that keeps him grounded on what’s ‘cool’ and ‘not cool’. This makes him a truly a remarkable man and storyteller.

Book Author

According to a study by the Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC) that was also highlighted in an article by the New York Times “Where are the People of Color in Children’s Books”, in 2013 there were 3,200 books published in the United States and of that number, only 3% were about African Americans. There has even been a call by people of various ethnic backgrounds who are not people of color to see more children of color in literature. This is something Bebe Noir Publishing seeks to remedy. 14390759_10154449948370119_5570631279589480820_n
